Privacy notice

What we do with your information. Last updated 18/09/2026.

The short version: you can use every tool on this site without telling us who you are. We do not sell anything to anyone, we do not advertise to you, and we do not use what you type to train AI models.

Who we are

Cùram Taic is a free care-navigation service for families in Scotland. It is run by PSA Studio, a sole trader based in Ayrshire. PSA Studio is the data controller for everything described on this page.

Using the site without giving us anything

The Care Home Finder, the Power of Attorney and Guardianship helpers, the funding calculator, the Self-directed Support helper and the Care Journey all work without an account. You do not have to give us your name or your email to use any of them.

What happens when you search for a care home

When you type a postcode, we send it to postcodes.io, a free UK service, to turn it into a map location. We do not store the postcode you typed. The map tiles come from OpenStreetMap, so your browser asks their servers for the map images.

The care home details themselves come from the Care Inspectorate's public register. That is open data about services, not about you.

If you leave a review of a care home

We store what you send us:

your answers to the review questions,
your relationship to the resident, if you fill that in,
your comment, if you write one.

Reviews are checked by a person before they appear. Please do not name staff or residents, or include anything you would not want published.

We also keep a random code in your browser's storage, so we can spot the same browser submitting the same review many times. It is not linked to your name and it does not follow you to other websites. Clearing your browser data removes it.

If you email a solicitor, or use a letter draft

These tools open the message in your own email app. We never see the message you send, and we never send it for you.

We do store your email address and which firm or which draft you used, so we can keep the free directory honest and let you know if the law changes. If you ticked "keep me posted", we use your address for that too, and you can stop it any time by replying or emailing us. We do not store who you sent the letter to — your GP, solicitor or social work team is your business, not ours.

If you make an account

An account is optional, and only exists so you can save care homes to come back to. We send a sign-in link to your email address. We store your email address and the homes you save. There is no password to forget.

If you use the AI Care Assistant

Your question is sent to two suppliers in the United States to be answered: OpenRouter, which helps us find the right piece of guidance, and Anthropic, which writes the reply. This happens through our own gateway, which records that a question was asked and what it cost us — not who asked it.

Please do not type names, addresses, dates of birth or medical details into the Assistant. It does not need them to help, and it means nothing personal ever leaves the UK. Ask "how does guardianship work", not "my mum Jean at 4 Example Street has dementia".

How we count visitors

We measure how many people visit, which page they arrived on, which site sent them, and which tools get used. We need that to know whether this service is reaching the families it is meant for.

We do it without cookies and without storing anything on your device for this purpose. We do not record your IP address or your browser's user-agent string, and we cannot recognise you on a later visit. That is why this site has no cookie banner — there is nothing to ask you about.

We keep these counts for 25 months and then delete them automatically.

Technical records

Our hosting provider, Netlify, keeps short-lived server logs that include IP addresses. That is ordinary web hosting and it is how any site stays online and resists attack. Cloudflare provides our domain name service and the anti-spam check on the review form.

Why we are allowed to do this

Under UK GDPR our lawful bases are:

Legitimate interests — to run the service, answer you, keep it working and stop abuse. We have weighed that against your rights, and you can object at any time.
Consent — for the optional "keep me posted" emails. You can withdraw it whenever you like.

Who else sees your information

We use these suppliers to run the service. They process information for us, under contract, and they cannot use it for their own purposes.

Supabase — our database, hosted in London. This is where reviews, accounts, enquiry logs and visitor counts live.
Netlify — hosting and server logs.
Cloudflare — domain name service and the review form's anti-spam check.
OpenRouter and Anthropic — United States. They only ever see what you type into the AI Assistant.

The two American suppliers mean some information leaves the UK. That is why we ask you not to put personal details into the Assistant. We never sell your information, and we never share it for advertising.

How long we keep things

Visitor counts — 25 months, then deleted automatically.
Reviews — for as long as they are published, because they are there to help other families.
Solicitor enquiries and letter logs — 3 years, so we can see whether the directory is working.
Accounts — until you ask us to delete yours, and we will do it.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to us using it. Email privacy@curamtaic.co.uk and we will reply within a month.

If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first, so we can put it right.

Children

This service is built for adults arranging care. It is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this notice

If we change what we do with your information, we will change this page and update the date at the top.
